don’t let fear kill your curiosity

Often when people discuss a topic, we just sit there, listen and node along. We pretend to know. We pretend to understand. We might even have questions or we might even be curious. But we are too scared to say something and ask.

We feel insecure. We don’t want to get embarrassed. We are too afraid to follow our natural curiosity. We don’t want others to know that we are clueless. We just keep silent.

This fear is destroying our curiosity and our ability to learn.

Let’s give our curiosity, our questions, our desire to learn a higher priority than the fear of embarrassment and the feeling of insecurity.

Others might not even care. And we shouldn’t care about what we think they might think about us.

Ask questions. Ask questions to understand the basics. Ask questions to get the gist. Ask for an example. Ask for an explanation. Once we understand, we might be able to contribute to the conversation.

I don’t want to pretend I know it all. I just either want to be comfortable with not knowing or, if my curiosity is sparked, I want to follow it and ask questions.
